Dr. David Garth

Equine Veterinarian & Director

David grew up in Gippsland where he was introduced to horses at a very early age.
He competed in many equine disciplines while growing up, and was introduced to thoroughbred racing as a teenager where he worked for many years as a stablehand. After completing a Bachelors degree in Radiography & Medical Imaging at Monash University, David was employed by Barwon Health (Geelong Hospital) where he worked for 8 years in a range of modalities including General Radiology, CT, Emergency, Theatre and Interventional Radiology. During this time David also completed his veterinary degree at Melbourne University. Upon completing his veterinary degree he was employed by Flemington Equine Clinic where he worked with many high profile racehorses and top… performance horses. David also undertook a stint in mixed practice, however was drawn back to specialising in equine practice.

After moving to Sydney, David established Sydney Equine Practice in 2015, over which time it has gone from strength to strength. Whether it be a group 1 racehorse, thoroughbred yearlings, performance horses or a beloved pony David is equipped to manage your horse. David has a special interest in lameness and racehorse management which when combined with his background in medical imaging makes him your first choice to manage your horses veterinary needs.

Dr. Elisabeth Charles

Equine Veterinarian & Practice Manager

Beth grew up in Canberra where she developed her passion for horses. She competed in many interschool and university competitions. Beth was also able to gain an appreciation for thoroughbreds and racing while working as a stable hand at the Canberra racetrack. After finishing high school Beth moved to Wagga Wagga to study a Bachelors degree in Equine Studies, graduating in 2005. Following graduation Beth worked at the Department of Agriculture in live animal import. During this time she was tasked with writing the new import conditions for horses following the Equine Influenza outbreak. Working closely with vets gave Beth an special interest in equine veterinary medicine. In 2010 Beth moved to… Sydney to completed a Masters in Animal Science, Nutrition and was accepted to study Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney the following year. Following Beth’s graduation she and her husband moved to America for study and work.

In 2019 Beth, her husband and twin boys made the move back to Sydney where she took up a position with Sydney Equine Practice. Beth’s previous horse and stable experience along with her previous degrees in equine nutrition and the department of agriculture make her a valuable asset to our team. Beth has a special interest in equine performance and lameness.

Dr. Elisha Dempsey

Equine Veterinarian

Bachelor of Veterinary Science
Bachelor of Veterinary Biology

Elisha was born in Broome where she developed her passion for horses at a young age. Her equine skills were put to the test riding on the Kimberly rodeo circuit before converting to the more traditional riding disciplines. A move to Darwin saw her complete her eduction in the Northern Territory before taking a well earned gap year working on a remote outback cattle station. Elisha’s passion for horses saw her move to Wagga Wagga, where she completed her veterinary science degree. Upon completing her veterinary degree she took up employment at Agnes Banks Equine Clinic where she was able to gain a broad range of skills before being employed on their ambulatory team. Elisha has an interest in equine reproduction​ and performance horse management.

In the little spare time that Elisha has she likes to work her horse and explore the Southern Highlands’ many hiking tracks and local delicacies with her husband.

Dr. Freya Rees-Jones.

Equine Veterinarian

Bachelor of Veterinary Science

Freya grew up in Wales where she developed her love for horses riding ponies as a young girl. Freya went on to study veterinary science at the university of Bristol, UK. She worked in the UK in dedicated equine practices before moving to Australia to work in thoroughbred reproduction, medicine, racing and performance horse roles. Freya has an unstoppable passion to get to the source of your horses problems.

Niamh Cassidy

Equine Veterinarian


Niamh is from County Kildare, Ireland, where she grew up watching racing and learning from her father who trained a few flat and national hunt horses. Before studying veterinary medicine in University College Dublin, Niamh spent a year away from the books at the Racing Academy in Kildare, to learn more about riding and managing racehorses.

Niamh thoroughly enjoyed her time at UCD, making life-long friends and gaining invaluable work experience in various establishments such as Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Kentucky, and Keros Equine Embryo Transfer Centre, Belgium.

Upon graduating in 2020, Niamh spent two years working in mixed and equine practice in the South East of Ireland. She developed a broad range of skills alongside the great team at Borovalley Veterinary Clinic, with a focus on thoroughbred reproduction during the breeding seasons.

Niamh moved to Australia in September 2022 to join the wonderful Sydney Equine Practice team. She loves all aspects of equine practice, with a special interest in racehorse poor performance investigation and is passionate about maximising horse health and welfare. Outside of work Niamh likes to explore Sydney and the beautiful nature in New South Wales; she especially enjoys watching the sunrise and going for a swim at Coogee beach.
